Wanted to feel The IIT
I saw a new world full of brilliance.
I learn the power of Imagination

My motivation towards MTech was to get the best technical and practical exposure in the field in which I am going to compete against other players. Feeling of being an IITian obviously gives you utter confidence and an edge over others in professional world because you do know "you are one of the most knowledgeable person among them and intellectually invincible". IMHO I didn't like to be treated as a "Human Resource" used by IT services behemoths for their trivial project but wanted to establish myself as the master (expert) of my field.
The most important thing I got of IIT is confidence and "can do" attitude. Exposure is truly the world class by which one learns to come out its cocoon and fight against the extremities. These are heaven for overall personality development with loads of available resources, activities, contacts and most importantly best possible peer group. Extra Curricular are also gigantic when it comes to largest cult or tech fests in india.
Your credential backs you up always and IITians are always the first preference for most complicated projects (sheer freshers could to preferred over the experienced plain bachelors guy). Before entering into IIT I was quite numb guy but after it I emerge out to be outspoken and had even tried the debating in my stint there. I tried a lot new things there and now they have become part of my life which I do enjoy after my professional life.

70 % Job 30% higher studies
I would say exposure to different methodology of learning altogether.
Not much. After MTech life became what it was earlier.

i was not satisfied with software job and wanted to go to a field where there wil be brain work involved....
a new hobby (photography), understood how geniuses work, worked under good professors, saw live shows of bollywood men, got exposed to a whole new range of activities like swimming etc...
now i can think independently as far as technology is concerned... now i ve a better approach to engineering...
Scientist R&D

To strengthen my theoretical concepts and to become master in field of signal processing.
IIT experience is truly enlightening. It is an excellent platform to lay strong foundation for different disciplines not in academics but also in sports and other extracurricular activities.
It has motivated me to study fundamentals of any subject before using it in practical application. I am able to understand subjects more thoroughly and with ability to crack its mathematical model.

I was very much motivated by IIT system, opportunities and learning. I like the openness of IIT system. I also want to specialize in electronics which finally made me to prepare for GATE.
There are lots of thing is to learn other than academics in IIT (In my case I learned more activities than academics :)) .I feel that after IIT, the skill which is the most important is problem solving skills and solving attitude towards problem. Again here I like the freedom in IIT to learn anything.I heavily enjoyed night out @ IIT.
I can't sleep before 12 (at least) in night and get heavily addicted to tea and coffee (Average 10-15 Cup everyday) heheheheehe :)It had not been long time to start my career, so it is difficult to say how much it affected. As my job related to my specialization in M Tech, it is surely helping me to rise in my career.

I always wanted to do my Masters and specialize in my field of interest. I had joined a service based company and didnt like the work culture there, though I was there for only 2 months(I don't consider it as work-ex because we generally dont quote 2 months as a work-ex).So that made me even more motivated to study further and getting into IIT's for MTech was what I aspired for, either to get into a product company later or to do a Phd.
Oh, I gained a LOT....The exposure was tremendous and very enriching. It was for the first time I was in a hostel and I came across students from different backgrounds across the country. It was a wonderful experience for me overall. It made me realize my potential better. I got into many extra-curricular activites where I did very well. Overall, it broadened my thinking and made me understand people better.
MTech from IITK has been the best phase of my life. I was able to redefine myself and today I know that I can achieve big things in life.It brought in a sense of maturity and responsibility in me needed to shoulder bigger tasks in life. The stimulating atmosphere is something very unique about IITK(may be its there in the other top IIT's also). It made me challenge the limits that I had initially set for myself. The experience was overall very enriching, very wonderful and very successful. I was able to contribute well to the system through the institute associations such as the Student Placement Office, Counselling Service etc.. and I also received a lot of appreciation and support from the student and faculty community there. To round off things, I got the best PG student award and that made for a wonderful ending to the 2 year journey.

Dream to study in IITs
IIT is best for academics than this it is very best for extra curricular activities. IIT has given more confidence in me to live in the society. no need to worry about some thing goes bad...if ur an IITian every thing goes challenging and exciting.
more depth in subject knowledge, now able to understand the subjects very clearly

1. To go up the technical ladder
2. To gain access to core companies which would mostly look for M.Techs?
3. To start off my career with good pay scale, Job factor was the primary reason
1. Plenty of time to groom myself and develop some hobbies.
2. Have a closer look at high end research which wasn't possible in common colleges
3. Learning and living with co-scholars who are also toppers from some institute. This gave a feel of competition, behavioral analysis, and different view point on things.
4. Friends and hostel environment makes oneself more open, confident and independent.
1. This brand gives one a life long recognition in the society, family and friends.
2. One would be much more confident having graduated from such a premier institute.
3. Access to core jobs.
4. In some companies, M.Techs get more pay and grade than B.Techs for the same work.

Wider Exposure in the area of our interest, access to world class Knowledge
global exposure, access to areas of advanced technology and research
It changed the my perspective towards life (Personally, professionally as well)
Software Engineer, Cisco Systems

To join IITs and also to gain specialization in the subjects I like. After B.Tech the job offer I got is from a service based company that requires IT skills, after studying electronics for 4 years, I don't want to settle in it. By doing M.Tech you have good chance of ending up in a core company. So, I choose to do M.Tech.
Although academics are the best part as the approach towards studies is entirely different from that of our colleges, we get lot of exposure. It's like getting to know the world. It's a platform to forecast your talent and whatever you are interested in you can definitely get in touch with it here. At the end the range of companies that come for placements and the packages they offer are really great. If you go in a right path, you will be a step above the world you know, after leaving IIT.
The two years boosted up my life by 5 years...

I was interested in Communications. So I want to learn more about it.
I was also very much fascinated by brand 'IIT'
I got opportunity to interact with several intelligent people. We used to play lot of games. Gained lot of friends. Excellent placement opportunities.
It helped me think more positively, increased my confidence levels a lot. Helped me to get a good job.

I don't want to waste my technical studies for doing management job and i always wanted to go for technical field.
IIT is something very different from real world for me. I have got everything in my 2 years of IIT life and now I am proud to be an IITian.
I have already told above :)

The degree itself!
It was a great experience staying there...Got some classy friends....Could say that I had an all-round character development
Gave me a research perspective at working on things
Lecturer, Manipal University
Information Systems, Electrical Engineering,
Class of 2008, IIT Kanpur
I was always interested in higher studies, and I wanted to stay in my field only. Had neither interested in management nor in higher studies at abroad.
I gained exposure in my field of work (besides the academics), exposure to different people and cultures of India, opportunities to learn new things (in extra-curricular), platforms to try out my hobbies. And to top it all, I got a so-called IIT tag which turns out to be very useful in the professional world
R & D Engineer,Tejas Networks
VLSI Design, Tools & Technology (VDTT),
Class of 2009, IIT Delhi
Wanted to do specialization in the subject
So many things...
I organized/participated in so many events cultural as well as technical.
Exposure at IITs is so much, in every field, that you can directly interact with top people of respective field. This really helps a lot.
Technically:
I learned a lot of professionalism
Non Technically:
It changed my view towards life...
It helped me to be a better and "responsible" person.

To understand the engineering concepts very clearly, to see the technology in close and ultimately to become wealthy
First thing is ample opportunities in engineering fields. Another thing is one can easily developed the personal skills in well established IIT environment.
It just changes everything; say one's confidence, knowledge, exposure and life style.

To get core job as after my B.Tech had got a software job which was nowhere related to ECE. Also wanted the exposure to the IIT work culture.
Got to get involved in lots of sports activities.
IIT's work culture helped me develop my personality and gave me great confidence to approach any problem.
Engineer, Larsen and Turbo
Electrical Engineering
Class of 2006, IIT Kanpur
Good time pass and IITk is a good place to play sports. If you are interested in studies then you don't need motivation from me. A nice place to do studies and research if not doing that crappy course work. Course work is bull shit. Gives only tension and nothing else. But if you want to do some good project it is an ideal place.Excellent library facilities no where else found in India. Excellent lab facilites to do reseach and project. You can stay the whole night in the lab to work if you want to. Above all there is a choice in the field of work.
many things not easy to describe. Kanpur is really good in seasonal fruits. Karbuja is really tasty. Nice place to stay with friends and enjoy. Ample opportunity to develop leader ship qualities.Relationship with professors are really nice. They are really helping and friendly. They take care as if they are our parents and we are their children.( of course exceptions always exist).
That is a personal opinion. But if you want to do PhD then MTech is a must.
